No news is good news, sort of

There has been a noticeable lack of updates about Arden starting school and on the site in general over the last few months.  It is mostly because we have been extremely busy putting Arden’s 504 plan in place and it would be inappropriate for me to talk about the proceeding before they are complete.  The other reason for the delay is the flu... Oh the flu, look for more about my friend the flu in Daddy’s blog soon.  To say that having the flu while your type I child has the flu is challenging is quite an understatement.  I expect our 504 to be in place this week and then I’ll be back with months worth of information.

2009 JDRF Walk Totals

We experienced a significant decline this year but that I can call raising $6,888 for diabetes research a “significant decline” is a testament to the folks that support Arden, read this site and donate.  Nearly seven thousand dollars is an amazing amount of money to raise for charity (especially with the state of our economy) and we are so thankful for all of your participation, generosity and kindness.

The weather was gorgeous again this year on walk day.  We had new faces join us while some others took a break, all in all the day couldn’t have been more perfect!

We look forward to seeing you all again next year, until then please keep an eye out for site updates.

Thank you!

There are photos from walk day in our ‘Scrapbook’ and donations are still being excepted online and by mail.  link

Do you Shannon take Jim

Since the inception of Arden’s Day I’ve asked you to take what you learn here and pass it on.  I believe that understanding breeds concern, that it gives birth to new advocates and that those things are paramount for people with type 1.  With every new person that understands the disease... Arden’s life gets easier.

Arden’s Aunt Shannon and her husband Jim stepped up as they have in the past (last year Jim printed our walk shirts for us at no charge) to bring much needed attention to type I diabetes.  Jim and Shannon were married on October 30, 2009 and in lieu of those little mints wrapped in fish net they made a donation to the JDRF in Arden’s name.  They generously donated two dollars per wedding guest to Arden’s 2009 JDRF walk and inside of every thank you card that they sent was this message, “Thank you for being a part of our day.  We have made a donation in your name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  This is in honor of our niece Arden, and the countless others who suffer with diabetes every day.”

We can’t thank them enough for coming up with this fantastic idea.  If you are visiting the site for the first time using the web address on your Jim and Shannon wedding refrigerator magnet, welcome!  We hope that you come back often and pass what your learn here on to a friend.

I can honestly say this brought a tear to my eye, it brought several actually. To see a family who so strongly support eachother, and to recognize the difficulties in diabetes to provoke them to do all they can about it, is truly amazing.
You should be very proud of your entire family.
Lots of love.

Emily, I can always count on you to read the site... thank you! We are very lucky to have such a concerned family indeed.
