Oh Canada... It's DexCom time!

The DexCom G4 continuous glucose monitor is now available in the true north! I'm not exactly sure how DexCom got their device ready for sale in Canada. Perhaps the transmitter will be wearing a tiny little hockey sweater? Who knows...

Getting started looks pretty straightforward. Go to dexcom.com/en-ca and then click "Contact Distributor". The link takes you to www.animas.ca, the company that is handling the distribution for Canada. The Animas page doesn't have any DexCom specific links. I would use the "Contact Us" tab at the top right of the Animas page and ask how to get started.

I found this contact information for Animas Canada at the bottom of the Canadian DexCom page linked above.

I'm so excited for my Canadian friends, you are going to love having a CGM!

I love that DexCom is now here in Canada but we have had CGMs from Medtronic for awhile.

I will have to look into it and see whether or not it's covered by either the Assisted Devices Program or by insurance...That's where the problem was for us Scott, the cost isn't cheap!

Melissa - I hope it's covered, will you let me know? Good luck!

Hi Sara!!!!

We are very excited!! Our insurance has approved it for our 10 year old (needed a letter from endo, since it is not approved by Health Canada for paediatric use). ADP (Assistive Devices Program) does not cover CGMs. Animas sells it for $1840, including the receiver, transmitter and 4 sensors. Next 4 pack of sensors is $340. Can't wait to get started!

We are very excited about it! Now we just have to convince insurance to cover it for us. My husbands won't cover it but we're hoping mine will. Keep your fingers crossed for us!! The other thing we've not been told is where our training is going to happen. Hoping we don't have to drive to the endo's office (3 hours away!) and that something will be available a little closer to home. Now comes the wait. Hmmmm...maybe if I ask Santa really nicely.........
